Niagara River Range Lighthouses

Niagara River Range sketch

Established in 1903, these two lights mark a small marina in the beautiful town of Niagara-on-the-Lake. The front range light is a thirty-foot tall pyramidal tower with a red-orange lantern room. The rear range light is identical, but approximately fifteen feet higher.

The lights are near Fort George, which was completed in 1799, shortly after the newly-formed United States occupied Fort Niagara, just across the river.

Directions: From Niagara Falls, Ontario, travel north on the Niagara Parkway, which runs along the Canadian side of the Niagara River. Niagara Parkway becomes Queens Parade. Turn right onto Wellington Street, then right onto Ricardo Street. The front range light is in the marina, while the more accessible rear range light is a block down the road. As of December 1998 (continuing as of September 1999), there was some development taking place in the vicinity, making it more difficult to access the Front Range Light. The lights may also be viewed at a distance from Fort Niagara. (September 2006)
