Battery Point and St. George Reef (Bert and Margie Webber, Webb Research Group Publishers, Medford, OR, ISBN # 0-93673866-9) - A history of the northernmost California lights - Crescent City and St. George's Reef.

California Lighthouse Life in the 1920s and 1930s (Wayne C. Wheeler, Arcadia Publishing, Charleston, SC, ISBN # 0-7385-0883-7) - A collection of vintage photos and history of California lights.

California Light Stations and Other Aids to Navigation c.1950 (John Twohy, George Mattson, Jan Mattson, Goat Rock Publications, Jenner, CA ISBN # 0-9610240-2-X) - An interesting and unique collection of photos from the 1950s. The photos were from a project begun by John Twohy and George Mattson and completed 50 years later by George Mattson and John Twohy's son Jan.

California Lighthouses (Bruce Roberts and Ray Jones, The Globe Pequot Press, Old Saybrook, CN, ISBN # 0-7627-0081-5) - This colorful text give a history of all of California's existing lighthouses, as well as stories of past lights.

Cabrillo Journal (Summer/Fall 2001) - Newspaper of the Cabrillo National Monument in San Diego; lists information on the park as well as the proposal to restore the lighthouse at Point Loma to its 1880's appearance.

California State Parks - Pigeon Point Light Station (Self-Guided Tour) - The brochure which guides you through Pigeon Point is filled with interesting tidbits about the station.

The City of Port Huemene History (Walter B. Moranda) - A brief history of Port Hueneme, available at the Port Hueneme Chamber of Commerce.

Discover Alcatraz (flyer) - A self-guided tour guide available at Alcatraz.

East Brother - History of an Island Light Station (Frank Perry, East Brother Light Station, Inc. Point Richmond, CA, ISBN # 0-9614254-0-7) - A detailed history of the life and rebirth of East Brother Light.

Emily Fish - Socialite Ligthouse Keeper (Jean Serpell Stumbo) - A short biography of Point Piños keeper Emily Fish. Available at the lighthouse and funded by the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History.

Four Sentinels (June Moeser, Tecolote Publications, San Diego, ISBN #0-938711-10-5) - This unusual book, available at the visitor's center of the Cabtillo National Monument, is both a history of the lighthouses of San Diego and a cookbook of lighthouse foods!

Friends of Piedras Blancas Lighthouse Lens (flyer) - From the site of the Fresnel lens of Peidras Blancas in Cambria.

Guardians of the Golden Gate - Lighthouses and Lifeboat Stations of San Francisco Bay (Ralph Shanks and Lisa Woo Shanks (ed.), Costaño Books, Petaluma, CA, ISBN # 0-930268-08-3) - This is the definitive text on the lighthouses of the San Francisco Bay. This is a must-read for anyone interested in lighthouse of the area.

The History of Pigeon Point Lighthouse (Frank Perry, Otter B. Books, Santa Cruz, CA, ISBN # 0-9617681-2-6) - This enjoyable and thorough text details the history of Pigeon Point Light.

Lighthouse or Outhouse? (Mary K. Hanley) - A small booklet from Lake Tahoe chronicling the history of aids to navigation in the Sierra Nevada! We found this at one of the area's state parks.

Lighthouse Point - Illuminating Santa Cruz (Frank Perry, Otter B. Books, Santa Cruz, CA, ISBN # 1-809625-05-1) - An updated history of Santa Cruz, (published in 2002) based in part upon his previous book on the area.

Lighthouse - Point Piños, Pacific Grove, California (Jerry McCaffery, ISBN # 096202624-7) - An outstanding book on Point Piños Light - it even features selections from the keeper's log on each page.

Lighthouses of California and Hawaii (Bruce Roberts and Ray Jones, The Globe Pequot Press, Guilford, CN, ISBN # 0-7627-1219-8) - An updated version of the California Lighthouses book by the same authors, with additional information about Hawaii.

NCIA 1999 Lighthkeeper's Report - This newsletter provided much of the information on the restoration of Point Cabrillo Lighthouse.

The Old Lighthouse at Point Loma (flyer) - Available at the visitor's center of the Cabtillo National Monument, this National Park Service flyer details the history of the old Point Loma lighthouse.

The Old Pacific Capital (Robert Lewis Stevenson, The Monetery History and Art Asosciation, Monterey, CA) - An excerpt from "Across the Plains." The essay describes Point Piños - "lighthouse in a wilderness of sand."

Pinpoint Guide to California Lighthouses (Bruce Roberts and Ray Jones, Crane Hill Publishers, ISBN # 1-57587079-7) - A pamphlet which unfolds into a map on one side, and a history of selected California lights on the other.

Point Cabrillo (flyer) - This brochure, from the Coastal Conservancy and North Coast Interpretive Association (NCIA), provides information on the history of the Point Cabrillo Lighthouse, the surrounding area, and the preserve.

Point Hueneme Lighthouse (Ann D. Snider) - Article on Point Hueneme from the Port Hueneme Chamber News. The article was published by the Port Hueneme Chamber of Commerce. We recevied a copy during our visit.

Point Sur (Carol O'Neil, Arcadia Publishing, San Francisco CA, ISBN # 0-7385-2094-2) - vintage photos and history of Point Sur.

Point Sur State Historic Park (flyer) - This brochure, from the Central Coast Lighthouse Keepers, provided information on the Point Sur Light.

Umbrella Guide to California Lighthouses (Sharlene and Ted Nelson, Epicenter Press, Seattle, WA, ISBN # 0-945397-21-6) - this book has been and continues to be highly useful in exploring the lighthouses in California. Much of the information on this website can be traced to this book. The structure of the California Lighthouse portion is based upon this text. We found this book at Point Reyes. (NOTE: The references here refer to the 1993 edition (red cover). A new edition (blue cover) was published in 2000.

Western Lighthouses (John Hinde Curteich, et. al., California Highways, Sebastapol, CA, ISBN # 1-901123-96-0) - a guide to the lighthouses of California, Oregon, and Washington.
