The Charlotte-Genesee Lighthouse Historical Society (flyer) - this was available at the Charlotte-Genesee Lighthouse, and provided a good deal of history on the site (including recent developments) not found in the other texts. Eastern Great Lakes Lighthouses - Ontario, Erie, and Huron (Bruce Roberts and Ray Jones, The Globe Pequot Press, Old Saybrook, CN, ISBN # 1-56440-899-X) - This colorful guide gives a more in-depth look at a selection of lighthouses. This book does not list all lighthouses of the Eastern Great Lakes, but it does give information on some of the more spectacular ones. Great Lakes Lighthouses - American and Canadian (Wes Oleszewski, Avery Color Studios, Inc., Gwinn, MI, ISBN # 0-932212-98-0) - This book is a directory of lighthouses for all of the Great Lakes. Each entry gives a small photo, lighthouse location, accessibility, and a tidbit of history. This book is useful in locating lighthouses. Great Lakes Lighthouses - Bonfires and Beacons (Larry and Patricia Wright, Boston Mills Press, Erin, Ontario,ISBN # 1-55046-185-0) - Photos and histories of a selection of Great Lakes lighthouses. Great Lakes Lighthouse Tales (Frederick Stonehouse, Avery Color Studios, Gwinn, MI, ISBN # 0-932212-99-9) - A collection of stories of the Great Lakes lighthouses and lightships. A History of Presqu'ile (Larry Turner, The Friends of Presqu'ile Park, Brighton, Ontario, Canada, ISBN # 1-895785-00-6 - a study of the historical development of the Presqu'ile peninsula, including the Presqu'ile Lighthouse. A Light on the Seaway (Ethel Williamson, 81 Beech St. St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada) - A firsthand description of the main light at Port Weller. This book was available at the Maritime Museum of the Great Lakes in Kingston, Ontario. Lighthouses of the Seaway Trail (Video, The Sweetgrass Foundation, Hammond, NY and WPBS, Watertown, NY, Seaway Trail) - An excellent video of the lighthouses of the Seaway Trail along Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. The Presqu'ile Lighthouse - Its History and Keepers (Myron McShane, The Friends of Presqu'ile Park, Brighton, Ontario, Canada, ISBN # 1-895785-04-9 - a short book on Presqu'ile Lighthouse, including useful contextual information about Presqu'ile Point. Presqu'ile Provincial Park 2000 (Park newspaper) - this was available at the main gate of Presqu'ile Provincial Park. An article "A Walk Into the Past" was a valuable initial source of information on the history of Presqu'ile Lighthouse. Seaway Trail Guidebook to the War of 1812 (Patrick and Michael Wilder, Seaway Trail, Inc., Sackets Harbor, NY, ISBN # 0-943689-02-3) - not specifically about lighthouses, but will give you some frame of reference to the numerous "War of 1812" signs along the Seaway Trail. It has sections on Buffalo, NY, Fort George (near the Niagara River Range Lights), Fort Niagara, Fort Ontario (the original sight of the Oswego Lighthouse), and the battlefield at Sackett's Harbor, from which Horse Island Light is visible. Seaway Trail Lighthouses (2nd Edition) (James Tinney and Mary Burdette-Watkins, Seaway Trail Foundation, Inc., Sackets Harbor, NY, ISBN # 0-943689-0508) - A must for anyone exploring the Seaway Trail along Lake Erie and Ontario in New York and Pennsylvania. The book can be purchased at various museums and historical sites along the Seaway Trail. A Traveler's Guide to 100 Eastern Great Lakes Lighthouses (Laurie Penrose, Bill T. Penrose, Ruth Penrose, Bill J. Penrose, Friede Publications, Davison, MI, ISBN # 0-923756-09-4) - This thorough guide gives a brief history and directions to all the lighthouses of Lakes Erie and Ontario. Each entry includes a photo, map and accessibility information.
