Lighthouse Organizations A listing of groups involved in the preservation and history of lighthouses in general. The U.S. Lighthouse Society (http://www.uslhs.org) - "A non-profit historical and educational organization incorporated to educate, inform, and entertain those who are interested in America's lighthouses, past and present." The USLHS is responsible for Lightship WLV 605 (RELIEF). American Lighthouse Foundation (http://www.lighthousefoundation.org/) - " Dedicated to Saving America's Lighthouses and Their History." The group helps save and preserve many US lighthouses. The National Lighthouse Museum (http://www.lighthousemuseum.org) - In 1997, several lighthouse preservation groups began work to create the National Lighthouse Museum (NLM). Set on the grounds of the U.S. Lighthouse Service Depot in Staten Island, NY, the NLM is a work in progress. However, tours of the site are available. Chesapeake Chapter - US Lighthouse Society (http://www.cheslights.org/index.html) - includes maps and information of Chesapeake Bay lights past and present, as well as current information on organization activities, including the Maryland Lighthouse Challenge. Great Lakes Lighthouse Festival (http://www.lighthousefestival.org/) - Annual event held to raise funds to help preserve the lights of the Great Lakes. Organized by several non-profit lighthouse organizations of the region. Lighthouse Digest Magazine (http://www.lhdigest.com/) - A monthly online magazine providing up-to-date information on lighthouses around the world. The site includes a "doomsday list" of lighthouses at risk of being lost forever. The magazine has an online version. The Lighthouse Preservation Society (http://www.maine.com/lights/lps.htm) - Organization committed to saving the lights.
